Amy Williams - Visual artist / Maker

Working with communities and organisations to create socially engaged artwork

Unearthed

Amy was commissioned by Lakeland Arts for their ‘New Year, New Make’ for Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House.

Unearthed is a large-scale paper installation made up of 11 oversized flowers. The installation unearths hidden or lesser-known stories of extraordinary women from Cumbrian history, who through their skill, dedication and compassion brought about positive social change.

The community garden element was produced with local community groups over a six-month period.

Same storm, Different Boat!

In the spring of 2021 Amy was commissioned to create an interactive installation inspired by the pandemic. She collected different peoples experiences in a survey to inform the work. Throughout the exhibition visitors were invited to add their stories to the installation.

Matisse and Contemporary Paper Artist Commission!

This project celebrating Cumbrian industries was commissioned by Rheged Gallery in Penrith, Cumbria for the ‘Matisse and Contemporary Paper Artists’ exhibition.

Amy created nine 18th century inspired paper wigs and hats each one referencing a different industry. They were photographed and hung as if in a portrait gallery in a stately home.

Amy is passionate about inspiring and engaging audiences and participants through her creative practice.
